WOULD YOU LIKE TO ATTEND THE ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI DI BRERA BUT ARE IN NEED OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT?
Thanks to regional funding, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, administers approximately 300 grants and scholarships a year through the yearly Announcement in order to obtain a Regional Grant.
The Grants and Scholarships are divided between first year students and students attending subsequent year courses, the amount is differentiated based on student status.
It is not simply a means of financial support but involves a number of services, including a free canteen service and university accommodation.
GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS: ACCESS TO FUNDS AND REQUIREMENTS
The requirements refer to the student’s merit and income and both requirements must be complied to at the time of the Announcement’s deadline.
In particular:
STUDENTS ARE REMINDED THAT: in order to apply for grants and scholarships it is necessary to have the document ISEE/2020 for the Right to University Education for those students with an Italian based income and the document ISEEU for those students with a foreign based income (or generated in Italy and abroad) which certifies the income of the family household. These documents are to be prepared by CAF (Government Office for Tax Assistance) and the data is subsequently added to the online application.
Any student who is repeating the academic year (with reference to any year of enrollment), or who has not completed the exams within the set time period, or who has suspended their studies for more than two consecutive years or for up to two non-consecutive years, is not eligible for any grant or scholarship if these conditions concern the same level of studies of grant application. If, however, the student attends a two-year specialization course, and any non- conformity refers to the student’s three year degree course the student can take the necessary steps to apply for a grant or scholarship ( Students are advised to read the Announcement in full for those Exceptional Cases regarding the Five Year Restoration Course).
WHEN CAN I SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR A GRANT OR SCHOLARSHIP?
The Announcement is published every year in July (September 2020 is the scheduled publication date for the academic year 2020-2021) on the Accademia’s website on the Home Page under the term Grants and Scholarships (one of the Smart Links, to be found at the bottom left). At the same time the link to fill in the relevant online application will also be available. The deadline is scheduled for October.
Students can fill in the online application even before the results of the tests and enrollment in the Accademia
WHAT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED?
The complete list of the necessary documents to be submitted and the deadlines to be complied to is set out in the Announcement and is divided into the two categories: students with an Italian based income and students with an income generated abroad.
As from the academic year 2020-2021 only those students with an income generated abroad will be required to submit paper documentation. All other students should upload the documentation directly from the scholarships and grants portal.
Students should consult the section SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS 2020-2021 in order to get an idea of the general documentation required and the necessary merit and income requirements.
WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?
Once the enrollment procedure has been concluded and the necessary documents have been submitted, students are required to wait for the publication of the rankings, as follows:
Provisional Ranking (November): indicates if the student meets the minimum requirements in order to apply. In this phase students can appeal against any errors or make any necessary amendments.
Provisional Ranking Update (November): updates the data relating to the previous ranking, regarding any errors or reservations;
Definitive Ranking (December): indicates whether the student has Awardee status or is deemed Eligible (that is to say the student meets the requirements as set out in the Announcement, but regional funds are insufficient)
First Update of the Definitive Ranking (May) indicates the change from Conditional Commuter to Non-Residing Student for those students who have submitted the rental contract in compliance to the dates set out in the Announcement or those who have accepted the available accommodation and as Commuters the students who have not submitted a rental contract or have not accepted the available accommodation; it regulates the situation of “conditional” students in the first year of a two Year Course (see Announcement for full details); it excludes those students who have withdrawn by the 30th of April.
Second Update of the Definitive Ranking (September): indicates the outstanding amount for those students previously deemed Awardees and having checked the availability of additional regional funds at the end of the summer period, appoints and assigns the amount for the new Awardees of the following years; assigns the status of Awardees to those first year students with merit achieved by the 10th of August, until the additional regional funds have been used (the funds cover approximately 85% of the annual ranking) and suspends those students who have not achieved the merit; and excludes those students who have withdrawn by the 30th of August.
Third and final Update of the Definitive Ranking (published in the month of December following the request): indicates those first year students who have been re-instated in the ranking, having achieved the necessary merit by the 30th of November (who will be ranked behind those students who achieved the necessary merit by the 10th of August) assigning the reimbursement of the regional tax (140 euro) and the first year students who have lost their place in the ranking for not having obtained the necessary merit by the 30th of November, will have to return all the amounts used during the year for having been scholarship holders (the amount of meals consumed up until July and the annual amount for accommodation.
WHAT DOES BEING DEEMED AN AWARDEE IN THE DEFINITIVE RANKING ENTAIL?
A student deemed an Awardee obtains the financial support and the services- canteen facilities and accommodation- as from January 2021.
WHAT DOES BEING DEEMED ELIGIBLE IN THE DEFINITIVE RANKING ENTAIL?
A student deemed Eligible obtains only the services. The number of scholarships will be more substantial in the September 2021 update based on the economic allocations made available by the Regione Lombardia in August 2021. For this reason available funds will be assigned to those students who had been previously ranked as eligible, who will now become Awardees. Students who are still deemed eligible in the September 2021 update will no longer be able to obtain any amount.
WHAT DOES BEING DEEMED NON ELIGIBLE IN THE DEFINITIVE RANKING ENTAIL?
A student deemed Non-Eligible does not have one or more of the requirements indicated and is therefore excluded from any benefit.
Students deemed Awardees and those deemed Eligible are exempt from the payment of the all-inclusive financial contribution (the tax calculated on the basis of the ISEE 2020 certificate), but must pay the Regional tax for University Education and stamp duty ( 240 euro for the first and 16 euro for the second in a single Pre-Printed Pay Slip for a total of 156 euro together with the postal money order of the Government Tax (first year students, or those attending the Accademia for the first time, following, for example, a transfer, must pay a Government Tax of 102.93; students attending subsequent year courses must pay 72.67). Students deemed Non-Eligible are not exempt from payment (unless they fall into those excluded categories, as indicated in the Taxes and Contributions terms and conditions, available on the Accademia ‘s web site).
I AM A FIRST YEAR STUDENT. IS IT POSSIBILE TO BE DEEMED AN AWARDEE IN THE DEFINITIVE DECEMBER 2020 RANKING?
NO, because first year students enrolled in three year degree courses, the five year restoration course or two year specialization courses will be placed in alphabetical order in the December 2020 definitive ranking, and in this ranking may be deemed Eligible or Non-Eligible but never deemed an Awardee, as the subsidy to first year students can only be paid to those who have obtained the necessary 35 credits and an average 27 by the 10th of August 2021. Furthermore, it is necessary that the Regione Lombardia provides additional funding by the end of the summer 2021 in order to increase the number of scholarship opportunities at the beginning of the academic year (therefore the exact number of first year student scholarships remains unknown until the Regione Lombardia indicates the amount of additional funds at the end of the summer 2021. The assignment of funds is not automatic for those first year students who achieve the afore-mentioned merit. The availability of immediate funds is also a factor). The second update of the definitive ranking, in September 2021, will indicate those first year students deemed Awardees. In this case the ranking will no longer be in alphabetical order, but based on the merit achieved during the first year of study, up to the 10th of August 2021 (therefore, the minimum in order to be part of the ranking until 31st of December 2021, is to achieve the necessary 35 credits and an average of 27).
I AM NOT A FIRST YEAR STUDENT. CAN I BE DEEMED AN AWARDEE IN THE DECEMBER 2020 DEFINITIVE RANKING. WHAT EXACTLY IS PROVIDED AND WHAT IS THE TIME SCALE?
Yes. Students enrolled in course study years subsequent to the first year deemed Awardees in the December 2020 ranking will receive the scholarship subsidy in two installments: in March and in October 2021 according to residence status and income category (see the Announcement’s charts for further information).
I AM DEEMED AN AWARDEE AS OF THE SECOND UPDATE OF THE SEPTEMBER 2021 DEFINITIVE RANKING. I WAS PREVIOUSLY DEEMED ELIGIBLE. WHAT EXACTLY DOES IT ENTAIL?
All students who were deemed eligible as of the first update of the definitive ranking (in May), have the opportunity to be deemed Awardees in the second update in September, until the additional regional funds, sent at the end of August 2021, have been used and only if the student meets the necessary terms and conditions as set out in the Announcement dated the 30th of August (regarding first year students: to have achieved the necessary merit by the 10th of August, for all other years including the first, not to have withdrawn from their studies before the 30th of August). The scholarship will be paid in full by October to those deemed Awardees in the second update in September.
I AM DEEMED ELIGIBLE IN THE DEFINITIVE RANKING. WHAT EXACTLY IS PROVIDED AND WHAT IS THE TIME SCALE?
All students, enrolled in all course years, who are deemed Eligible will be able to benefit from a free daily meal and accommodation (if they have been awarded the latter service) in the same ways and means as those students deemed Awardees.
The students deemed Eligible may be deemed Awardees with the second update to the definitive ranking in September 2021 and therefore receive a scholarship, thanks to additional regional funds. Those students who continue to be deemed eligible in the second update in September, will only receive the reimbursement of the University Education Tax of 140 euro and will continue to benefit from canteen services and accommodation facilities (if the latter has already been assigned) until December 2021.
I AM A FIRST YEAR STUDENT AND I AM SURE THAT I WILL BE UNABLE TO ACHIEVE THE 35 CREDITS AND THE AVERAGE MARK OF 27, AS SET OUT IN THE PROPOSAL, BY THE 10TH OF AUGUST. WHAT WILL THE CONSEQUENCES BE?
First year students of any level, who will not achieve the minimum number of credits will have their canteen badge blocked, and therefore will not be able to benefit from free meals from September to December 2021. If the student in question was deemed an Awardee, payment of the scholarship will be suspended. If by November 2020 the credits are obtained, then half of the total amount will be paid. If the credits are not obtained by November 2020 the student will have to render the amount spent in services (canteen and accomodation), as indicated in the letter forwarded by the Office for University Education “Restitutionof Scholarship funds”. The student will also be required to make a prompt payment of the All-Inclusive Financial Contribution, an amount which varies according to the student’s own ISEE and which will be calculated by the Tax and Contributions Office.
